Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende met with NHC in Ukraine

On 5 December Foreign Minister Børge Brende met representatives from OSCE Parallel Civil Society Conference in Kiev in connection with the now ongoing OSCE Ministerial Council.

The meeting took place at the same time as mass demonstrations continued in the Ukrainian capital. Norwegian Helsinki Committee was represented by Ivar Dale, prominent Russian activists Yuri Dzhibladze and Olga Zakharova also participated at the meeting. Foreign Minister Brende received the recommendations from the Parallel Civil Society Conference and they exchanged the views on the current situation in Ukraine.

NHC has previously called on the Ukrainian Government to respect the freedom of assembly and expression for the Ukrainian people and to make sure no violence is used against protesters. In view of the violence special police forces committed against protesters and journalists at Maidan Square, Yanukovich should investigate the events and bring the responsible to justice.
