– I am very pleased that Leyla finally have been allowed to return to her home, and hope that she now will get the medical treatment she obviously needs. While noting that her legal situation remains unchanged I once again ask that all the spurious charges against Leyla, as well as against her husbond Arif, now will finally be dropped, says secretary general in the Norwegian Helsinki Committee Bjørn Engesland.
Leyla was in August 2015 sentenced to 8 1/2 years in jail after being convicted by a court in Baku on charges of fraud and tax evasion. She still faces charges on treason.
