NHC strongly condemns Russia’s attack on Ukraine

- The Norwegian Helsinki Committee strongly condemns the Russian aggression against Ukraine. This is a violation of international law, it violates the UN's central principles, and it is an attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a democratic state, says Secretary General Geir Hønneland.

– Our thoughts go to friends and partners in Ukraine, a young democracy under military attack, but also to our many friends in Russia, who live under Putin’s brutal regime. Good forces on both sides must stand together against the aggression from the Kremlin, says Hønneland.

– Russia’s attack on Ukraine violates the central principles of international relations established through the Declaration of Helsinki in 1975. This is a serious setback for cooperation and security in Europe, says Hønneland.
