A Nobel Peace Prize in times of war // FULL

The day before the day of the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, we arrange a panel discussion attended by representatives of the three Nobel Peace Prize laureates.

The Nobel Peace Prize 2022 is awarded to prominent human rights activists in three countries: the Ukrainian human rights organisation Center for Civil Liberties, the Russian human rights organisation Memorial, and Ales Bialiatski from the Belarusian human rights organisation Viasna.

Which role do human rights organisations play in creating the foundations for peace and democracy? What can we learn from the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s motivation? Why is it important to recognise the immense effort these organisations do for peace, right now?

The announcement of the prize has also sparked debate, especially in Ukraine, which is combating a Russian war of aggression – supported by the Belarusian regime. The panel discussion will address these and related questions.

The Norwegian Helsinki Committee, in partnership with the Nobel Peace Centre, arranges a panel discussion on these and related questions with representatives of the three Nobel Peace Prize laureates (to be announced), followed by light refreshments and socializing.
