Wikborg Rein has been a close partner for several years and shares a commitment to protecting human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
“We are very grateful for this generous contribution from Wikborg Rein. With the help of the competence and experience of their legal teams, we can reach even higher goals in our work of bringing accountability for grave violations of international law. Through their support of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, Wikborg Rein sets an example for how a corporate law firm and a human rights organisation can work together through shared values,” says Berit Lindeman, Secretary General of the NHC.
Wikborg Rein has advised us on a range of matters relating to international sanctions, export controls, human rights and public international law. The cooperation was crucial to the work on the report “The Russia Sanctions as a Human Rights Instrument: Violations of Export Controls Regarding War-Critical Goods to Russia”, which received significant international attention and contributed to discussions among policymakers, regulators and media in multiple countries.
Wikborg Rein has assisted NHC in monitoring legislative developments relating to the EU sanctions framework, including the implementation of new rules criminalising sanctions violations across Europe. This work has involved coordination with legal experts and local counsel in multiple jurisdictions.
Through the extended partnership, Wikborg Rein will continue to provide pro bono legal assistance on matters relating to sanctions, human rights, war crimes accountability and international law. The cooperation also reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine and efforts aimed at ensuring accountability for violations arising from Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
“Human rights, accountability and the rule of law are fundamental values that guide our work. We are proud to continue our cooperation with the Norwegian Helsinki Committee and to contribute our expertise in support of their important efforts,” says Tine Elisabeth Vigmostad, Partner and Head of Wikborg Reins ESG Compliance and Crisis Management practice area.
By extending the partnership, both organisations reaffirm their shared ambition to use legal expertise to promote justice, strengthen democratic institutions and safeguard fundamental rights.
