What’s next for Armenia?

In the wake of elections and COP 17, what is next for Armenia?

Armenians said no to Putin as Pashinyan regained support during elections in June, but he is already talking about snap elections to increase support in Parliament to make constitutional changes.

Without constitutional changes there might not be any final peace deal with Azerbaijan.

In October, Armenia hosted the UN’s biodiversity flagship COP 17 whilst new mining contracts were signed and court cases opened against critical voices. Is Armenia really the success story we were hoping for? Which concerns are there? How is Armenia protecting its diversity – in society as well as environment? What should Norway do to facilitate democratic development?

Sona Ayvazyan from Transparency International Armenia discusses with Norwegian experts on human rights and biodiversity in Armenia Lene Wetteland (NHC) and Pål Wilter Skedsmo (FNI). We will also discuss Armenia’s role in Norwegian foreign policy with Lise Selnes from the ruling Labour Party and Chair of the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
