Georgian Elections: Report details violations in minority regions

A new report on the 2024 Parliamentary Elections in Georgia by The Human Rights Center (HRC), a leading Georgian human rights organisation, documents significant violations at the polling stations in regions inhabited by ethnic minorities.

The Report details serious problems in polling stations during the election day, 26 October 2024, such as the presence of unauthorised persons, threats and violence against voters, violations related to marking procedures, unlawful use of ID documents, repeated voting, violation of voting privacy, and ineffective reactions of the election administration to the observed violations.

The report is based on observations in the regions of Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, and Shida Kartli. The HRC deployed groups of observers in the villages inhabited by ethnic minorities in Sagarejo, Gardabani, and Marneuli municipalities and in the villages adjacent to the division line in the Shida Kartli region. Twenty election observers monitored different stages and procedures of the polling, including the opening of the polling stations, the balloting and counting processes, the completion of summary protocols, etc.

The (HRC) observed the elections with the financial support of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, which also had our own observers present, who reported to the HRC.
