Description of duties
The Central Asia Adviser will be responsible for gathering partner reports, monitoring project implementation by partners and writing narrative and financial reports to our donors. You will be in regular contact with our project partners in the region and ensure timely two-fold information flow between us and all the groups we work with. As we continuously seek to expand our project-based work in the region, you will be instrumental in identifying civil society actors throughout Central Asia and you must expect to travel regularly in the whole region. With your passion for human rights and in-depth knowledge of Central Asia, you will play a key role in exploring and developing project ideas together with our Central Asia staff.
You will also participate in the day-to-day activities of our Central Asia office, including advocacy, forming policies, drafting and writing press releases, statements, articles and reports on relevant human rights issues in Central Asia. Following ongoing developments in the region is a key component of our work, and you will take part in election observation, monitoring of peaceful protests as well as observing relevant court proceedings.
About you
You are an efficient, reliable, and responsible person with good networking skills and a burning passion for human rights and justice. You are robust and capable of working on emotionally taxing issues, including gross human rights abuses. You are a team player, and also function well when working independently. You are an independent thinker with creative ideas on how to improve our work to strengthen human rights and promote democracy in Central Asia.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in English and Russian. Proficiency in other languages spoken in Central Asia is an asset
- Prior experience in administrative work
- Eagerness and willingness to learn
- Ability to travel throughout Central Asia and elsewhere when required
- Knowledge of Central Asia, including politics, history, traditions, culture etc.
- A burning passion to improve the human rights situation in Central Asia
