Local politicians and citizens initiatives, as well as religious institutions condemned, and tried to obstruct, the parade from being held as planned. The Norwegian Helsinki Committee was concerned that hate groups would use this as an incentive to attack the parade, so that there would be substantial violent incidents like in 2011.
Fortunately the organizers had the support from politicians on a national level, and from the international community. It is important that the police force of Split did not succumb to pressure from the Split City council and provided sufficient protection for the parade to take place.
Pride Parade in Zagreb will be organized on Saturday the 16th. It should be expected nothing less than that the parade will be carried out with the same support, protection and celebration as was the case this weekend in Split.
